Soprano and stage director Daisy Brown brings a unique dual perspective to opera, combining her extensive performing experience with an instinctive understanding of theatrical storytelling.
As a soprano Daisy has been described as “Outstanding” by The Times, “technically exceptional and physically commanding” by Opera Magazine, and praised by The Telegraph for her “sparkling grace” and “glittering coloratura.’’ Daisy is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama.
Her recent and upcoming vocal engagements include Amor in Orfeo ed Euridice (Opera North & Buxton Festival), Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Grange Festival), Tytania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Opera North & Nevil Holt), Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos, the title role in The Snow Maiden and Karolka in Jenufa (Opera North). Other notable roles include Masha in The Queen of Spades, Tweedle Dee in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance (Opera Holland Park), Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw (Bury Court Opera), Frasquita in Carmen (Mid Wales & Nevil Holt Opera) and Pamina in The Magic Flute with the Merry Opera Company, for which she was nominated for the Off West End Award for Best Female Lead.
As a director, Daisy’s work demonstrates the same artistic intelligence that distinguishes her singing. Her production of Wolf-Ferrari’s Il segreto di Susanna at Iford Arts received outstanding critical acclaim, with Hugh Canning of Opera Magazine praising her “chic, smart staging” where “Brown’s direction of this witty battle of the sexes… couldn’t be faulted.”
Daisy has assisted at the Royal Opera House on the Jette Parker Artist Programme and Richard Jones’ La Bohéme. She is currently directing the summer production of Dido & Aeneas (Purcell) and Fête Galante (Smyth) for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
